Terry Oldfield - Journey Into Space

Terry Oldfield is a world acclaimed composer and much loved musician, known for his mastery of the Flute and with over 3 million record sales to date Terry continues to make a wonderful contribution to the world of music.
St John’s The Baptist Church concert on Wednesday the 15th of August is part of Terry’s promotional tour for his latest album ‘Journey into Space’ due for launch later this year and on which his brother Mike Oldfield (of Tubular Bells fame) features.
Terry feels his ‘Journey into Space’ is his greatest most joyful music to date. Joined by his wife Soraya in his promotional concerts, Terry says it his heartfelt wish that his music helps people experience peace in their lives.
Terry, who expresses himself through flutes and other instruments, says he takes his inspiration from the cultures of the world and the beauty of nature.
Terry says it is impossible to answer the inevitable question "How do you write music?" as he simply doesn’t know. He says it can only happen when he feels he is no longer there to get in the way. “When I disappear and become like the open tube of the flute through which the wind blow it is then that the magic happens”.
Terry first ‘fun’ musical foray was with his Brother Mike (of Tubular Bells fame) where they formed a band called Barefoot in 1970 and played heavy blues in clubs and universities in Britain for about a year. Terry later played the flute in the first Tubular Bells concert at Queen Elizabeth Hall. He claims that his guitar skills did not match his brothers’ who he says “took to the guitar at the early age of eight”
Travelling the world, which Terry says was his saving grace; he discovered the flute for the first time on the island of Hydra in Greece aged 19.
Terry’s music has supported films and documentaries for thirty years with companies such as Warner Brothers, BBC Wildlife, HTV and Central TV. Undertaking sometimes twelve works a year, Terry has contributed to forty six (46) productions including A Winter Sleep, BBC which won the Best Music Award at the Chicago International Film Festival and Meerkats United, BBC which was voted by a national TV poll as the ‘best wildlife film ever’ and has sold to over eighty (80) countries several times over. Other credits include two EMMY nominations for Best Music in National Geographic’s ‘Land of the Tiger’ and ‘Twilight of the Dreamtime’ and a British Academy nomination for ‘Kingdom of the Ice Bear’.

Terry Oldfield's Special guest on the night is well known local Vinod Prasanna and Greg Kniebass
