Event Description

Wednesday 25 March 2015

ACBC Canberra Networking Day- join the Treasurer, Foreign Minister and Minister for Small Business to discuss the Australia-China trade and investment relationship.

In partnership with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Australia China Business Council will host the annual Canberra Networking Day on Wednesday 25 March 2015 in the Main Committee Room of Parliament House.

This popular event, strictly Members Only, is an exclusive opportunity to network with federal Ministers and senior officials charged with the major public policy decisions driving the Sino-Australian trade and investment relationship and to engage with business and industry leaders. Last year’s Canberra Networking Day saw strong support from the Federal Government, Opposition and business leaders. 2015 is shaping up to be even better as we look to government and industry leaders to discuss what the Australia China FTA will mean across Australian business, industry sectors and trade.

This year’s event has the confirmed participation of:

  • The Treasurer, Joe Hockey, representing the Prime Minister;

  • Julie Bishop, Minister for Foreign Affairs;

  • Ian Macfarlane, Minister for Industry and Science;

  • Bruce Billson, Minister for Small Business;

  • Chief Scientist Professor Ian Chubb;

  • Bill Shorten, Leader of the Opposition;

  • Tanya Plibersek, Deputy Leader of the Opposition

  • Bruce Gosper, Austrade CEO

Minister Bishop will launch the Australia China Trade Report, an incisive and timely report documenting how Australians are beneficiaries of trade and investment with China at the household level and in multiple ways: as consumers, investors and small business owners. The report was sponsored by the NAB and DFAT’s Australia-China Council.

Highlights of the day include:

  •   The opportunity to engage with government and industry leaders on new directions in the Australia-China relationship in a relaxed, informal setting. Opportunities for Q&A with all speakers.

  •   Networking lunch and refreshment breaks throughout the day.

  •   An exclusive networking function hosted at the Chinese Embassy from 620pm to 8pm. A free shuttle will be made available to transport members between Parliament House and the Embassy.
