This workshop will guide you through the various strategies available for you to enhance the quality of life and well-being of children and adults who have disabilities as well as the older adults, through music. It is underpinned by the belief that any-one, irrespective of the level of ability, can interact through and engage in musical experience.

This workshop is suitable for direct care workers, case managers, friends, family, team leaders, allied health professionals, carers and students in the above disciplines.

Morning Session:
All three strands will be together for the morning session. We will consider the potential challenges faced by children & adults who have disabilities and the older adults; including issues of loss, cognitive and social development and communication difficulties. We will also explore why music can be an effective tool in enhancing personal quality of life and well-being.

This will cover the following:

• Various ways to experience music



• The effect of music on the human body



• The use of music to stimulate, relax as well as



• Promote movement and expression



• Aspects of communication (verbal and non verbal)


Afternoon Sessions:
In the afternoon we will break into the three strands; children, adults and older adults. This practical session will explore the idea behind music making, at all levels, including:


• Interpersonal relationships



• Creativity and vibrancy



• Working within your skill set



• Simple musical experiences you can facilitate



• Self esteem and engagement



• Repertoire
