Event Description

Join acclaimed author Robert Dessaix as he discusses his travel writing and the meaning and importance of journeys in his work.

And then listen to five Australian writers--Danielle Wood, Cameron Hindrum, Kari Gislason, Gabi Mocatta, and Josiane Smith--discuss their travel experiences in northern Tasmania as part of the "5 Writers Project." The writers have been selected and sent to five different locations across northern Tasmania. Their task is to create five new and exciting narratives inspired by their journeys. They will be joined by South African travel journalist and blogger Graeme Freeman, a Tourism Australia visiting fellow, who is finishing a six-month stint in Tasmania.

This event is part of the "Travelling--Writing--Tasmania" symposium and proudly supported by TasRail, Festivale, Island magazine, the Association for the Study of Australian Literature, the Festival of Golden Words, the Colonialism and its Aftermath research centre, and the University of Tasmania.

Tasmanian wines and beer will be served at the Annexe theatre bar, and all guests will receive a free Festivale wine glass.
