Are there two more influential 60s avant garde artists than the Velvet Underground and the Stooges (including of course their dynamic leaders Lou Reed and Iggy Pop)?
Roxy Music keyboardist and iconic producer, Brian Eno, once famously said, “not many people bought the first Velvet Underground album, but all of those who did formed a band”. It’s easy to see why – listening to the album 45 years after its release, you can hear sounds, textures and song writing that have influenced artists as diverse as Bowie, Television, Belle & Sebastian, Patti Smith, Air and Sonic Youth, to name only a handful.
Meanwhile fellow New Yorker Iggy was busy laying the foundations of pop punk rock noise that would influence generations of disaffected youth.
Now a host of Brisbane's finest pay tribute to these thought leaders, putting their own spin on their favourite tunes. Veterans Silver Sircus are joined by the exuberant two piece The Con and the Liar, and The Keepaways featuring guests Bones and Matt James (Dead Wolves).
