Event Description
Australian Independent Music Video Awards 2014

The Australian Independent Music Video Awards are undertaken to provide recognition and incentive to filmmakers and musicians creating original new works. Now into our second decade, the Awards are one of the few truly independent music video awards that is not owned/controled by media or corporate entities and of growing world recognition.

The awards were initiated by the Australian Independent Music Association (AIMA) in recognition of the diversity and range of talent active in the production of independent music videos. The vast majority of the music videos, similar to the original recorded music tracks, are not well covered by mainstream music industry awards, that are dominated by major transnational recording labels and media interests.

The first awards were presented in Melbourne during 2006 and have grown in stature ever since. From the outset there was strong interest from international music video directors and independent artists. With a 2011 review of both structure and timing the AIMA decided to increase the range of awards to both Australian and International interests to the extent that by 2012 the awards became recognised as the most comprehensive music video awards worldwide. Previous AIMVA winners can be viewed on the AIMVA website.

The presentation in 2014 will be made at the NLA Theatre, National Library of Australia, Canberra with awards presented by VIP media, film and music industry personnel with live entertainment at intermission.  The event is a "Red Carpet" type of evening with a mix of film directors, producers, crew and of course the performing artists themselves.  Seats are strictly limited and once sold out no additional tickets are issued.
