48% of girls in Iran, 10% in India and 7% in Afghanistan believe that menstruation is a disease.
In rural India, many women use unsanitary materials such as old rags, husks, dried leaves, grass, ash, sand or newspapers because they do not have access to affordable, hygienic and safe products and facilities.
Menstruation matters. It is the one thing every woman in this world has in common. Menstrual hygiene management is a fundamental right to human dignity.
Menstrual Hygiene Day is on 28 May 2015. The Menstrual Hygiene Day initiative serves as a platform to create a united and strong voice for women and girls around the world.
With the support of our sponsors, we are hosting a High Tea event in support of Menstrual Hygiene Day to raise awareness about the issues affecting women. 100% of donations from the event will go to Irise International; a charity focused on educating women on menstruation and providing them with safe sanitary hygiene products. We would love for you to join us!
Please invite all your girlfriends, sisters and mothers along too! Help us break the silence around menstrual hygiene.
