The saltwater spray suspended over Port Fairy Folk Festival marked the official launch of Jodi Martin’s beautiful new album, Saltwater. Jodi is playing selected shows around Australia leading up to the official National Tour and the Darwin Album Launch is Friday 19^th June at 7:30pm.

Featuring co-writes with Arlo Guthrie and Jeff Lang, and produced by Shane Nicholson, Saltwater is an exquisite collection of songs; fun, heartwarming and insightful.

The album all began with a recent songwriting road-trip across the United States that Jodi embarked upon with her friend and mentor, Arlo Guthrie. Folk legend in his own right, and the son of Woody Guthrie, Arlo has influenced Jodi greatly in music and spirit, and in the humour and underplayed eloquence of his storytelling.

With an authentically Australian contemporary folk bent, Jodi Martin has toured to the far reaches of the globe with some of the best in her field, including Luka Bloom, Eric Bibb, Bruce Cockburn and Arlo Guthrie.

The album’s laid-back first single and music video Saltwater in My Hair celebrates the healing power of the ocean, and time spent there with family and friends. This iconically Australian song and video spearheaded Jodi’s successful NSW North Coast tour in January, with sell out shows and overwhelming feedback.

Jodi’s Saltwater album, and particularly the single Saltwater in My Hair, salute her childhood spent on the remote desert coast of South Australia. 

Jodi says ‘I grew up in Ceduna, on the edge of the desert and the ocean. Cities were a world away, and most of our entertainment fell squarely on the shoulders of the sea. It remains to this day, one of the best ways I can relax – just the smell of saltwater puts a smile back on my face. It’s my healing place.’
