Matthew was born and raised in Launceston, Tasmania and this is where he found his love and passion for performing. Coming through the local college production courses and community theatre scene, Matthew then followed his dream to perform professionally by relocating to Melbourne to study and train under some of Australia’s top theatre and TV greats.
During Matthew’s time in Melbourne, he was also cast as the lead role in Australia’s longest running and most successful cabaret venues, Dracula’s.
After working on stage for 13 months at Dracula’s, Matthew then moved on after being offered some incredibly exciting opportunities!
As well as Matthew’s recent success teaming up with Ricky Martin and performing in front of millions of people on The Voice Australia season 3, Matthew was also cast in Encore Theatre Companies production of The Phantom Of The Opera, in which he played Raoul and for which he received a Tasmanian Theatre Award nomination for Best Male Performance.
Other notable roles Matthew has played include Marius in Les Mis, Joseph in Joseph and the Technicolored Dreamcoat, Troy Bolton in High School Musical and Warner in Legally Blonde. Matthew has also just finished a season playing the role of Che in Evita, a role that was recently revived by Matthew’s mentor Ricky Martin on Broadway.
This concert will showcase some of Matthew's favourite shows tunes; songs from his debut album ‘The Tattooed Tenor’ as well as some of the greats from Frank Sinatra and Michael Buble. The night will also be filled with stories and insights into Matthew's many experiences as well as spectacular dancers and guest performers!
Door of Hope is thrilled to be hosting Matthew’s debut solo concert and proud to be supporting his career.
