What's Beyond ABW

ABW has quickly become the modus operandi for contemporary work environments. The success stories are many, with numerous local workplace projects having effectively implemented agile working into both a company’s culture and its workspace. If ABW is the status quo for modern day working, then what is the next frontier? Does the rise of remote contract, task-based employment sound the death knell for the office entirely? Or will even greater flexibility, such as that promised by co-working spaces, open a new chapter of innovation? In this talk we question: Has ABW succeeded in creating offices that address the needs of modern companies and workers? In particular, has the correct balance between collaboration and privacy been found? Looking further afield, can the notion of flexibility apply to organisations as well as individuals? Can multiple companies share office facilities, expanding and contracting as they require, and complementing each other’s activities? And, most importantly, what does all this mean for architects and designers?
