A (very brief) History of German Humour

German comedian Paco Erhard loves Australia – you’re feckin' weird! And now he shares his results of five years’ observing you in your natural habitat... along with his famously hilarious takes on Germany and the world. Come and find out what you Aussies are really like!

With his “sidesplittingly funny and violently politically incorrect humour” (The Argus, UK), Paco has won Australian hearts since 2012. A master of mischief who “knows Australia almost painfully well” (Rip It Up), his shows have been sold out since 2012.

And 2017 may be the last time you can see Paco. Despite all the Scheisse he heaps on his country in his shows sometimes, he is now on the brink of fame in Germany, with shows at famous Berlin theatres Bar Jeder Vernunft und Die Wühlmäuse, a book deal, TV, and all that.

So see him while you can. Your friends probably already have. Especially if they’re German. (And  in that case, Paco’s show might explain a thing or two about them.) Experience for yourself why the mediaworldwide say Paco is “one of the best cultural comedians in the world” (Rip It Up) who “keeps the room in stitches, whether you’re German or not” (Vue Weekly, CAN).

You will laugh. If you want. Zis is not an order.

ABOUT PACO

Paco Erhard is Germany’s international comedian and comedy ambassador to Europe. He is a staple performer at comedy festivals around the world.

Best known for his 2012 solo show 5-Step Guide to Being German, his more recent solo shows (Paco Erhard: Djerman Unchained andPaco Erhard: Worst. German. Ever.,among others) made him equally famous for his biting social satire, intercultural comedy and mischievous charm.

In 2001, he hitchhiked out of his native Germany and started travelling the world for 14 years, meeting peculiar people, working weird jobs, and doing crazy things. He has since done comedy in English, Spanish and German. In his high-octane comedy, he draws on this meandering life around the world, sharing his observations on different cultures and commenting on consumerism, nationalism, poverty, globalisation, religion, marketing, politics, and the media from a global perspective.

Paco has appeared on BBC One television as well as on TV and radio in Australia, Canada, England, Scotland, New Zealand and Germany. Considered “one of the best cultural comedians in the world” (Rip It Up, Australia), he has been nominated for the Fringe World Best Comedy Award and won the Stuttgart Comedy Clash in 2015.

AWARDS & INTERNATIONAL MEDIA

FRINGE WORLD BEST COMEDY AWARD 2013 Nominee

STUTTGART COMEDY CLASH 2015, Winner

★★★★1/2 'Intelligent, political, smutty, and genius.' – Adelaide Advertiser

★★★★ ‘articulate and thoughtful… finely honed… fast-paced, funny, edgy and definitely never boring… the comedy world is a better place for it’ – Herald Sun

★★★★★ ‘Genius... waves of comedy gold.' – Edinburgh Guide

★★★★1/2 'he gets Australia almost painfully well… A blistering hour of stand-up… one of the best cultural comedians in the world.' – Rip It Up

★★★★★ 'Observational comedy and satire at its finest.' – ThreeWeeks (UK)

‘an hour-long, finely-honed wonderfully-gentle harangue from a world traveller in his late thirties, who just happens to be German, espousing the thoughts of younger generations the world over and catching all of us in the reflection and memories of his well aimed mirror.’  – The Age (no star rating)

★★★★ 'The audience was crying with laughter.' – The West Australian

'This show has started to sell out for very good reasons. Erhard is hilarious as he deconstructs German stereotypes... fresh and original... had me laughing so hard I almost cried.' – The Jenny (Canada, no star rating)

★★★★★ 'Hysterical... endless original jokes. ' – Broadway Baby (UK)

'First time ever, I've attended a comedy gig at the Cavern Club that is standing room only. After a few seconds of Erhard I can see why. He is fantastic: hilariously, intelligently, full-on fizzingly fantastic… I’m reminded why comedy is addictive… If you're hungry for intelligent, political entertainment, Erhard is a must-see.' – Theatre Review (NZ, no star rating)

★★★★ 'This is a high-energy roam through the cultural differences between British and German behaviour; and, for that matter, between the behaviour of Germans and Australians, South Africans, and numerous other nationalities. And even between the behaviour of Germans and other Germans… All this is delivered with considerable comic oomph, sharply observed social commentary, and plenty of self-effacing gags... An hour of fast-fire fun from a man with lots of witty questions... Excellent, expert comedy, and more thoughtful than his knockabout style would at first lead you to believe. ' – Bath Chronicle (UK)

★★★★ 'It’s [Paco’s] honesty, coupled with clever barbs about everything from Brexit to Justin Trudeau that makes his comedy so effective. Erhard is also a masterful crowd-worker, playing off and building on what the audience gives him as he goes along... he keeps the room in stitches, whether you’re German or not.' – Vue Weekly (Canada)

★★★★ 'Izzard-style whimsy...close to the line, mischievous, unfailingly astute.’ –The Skinny (UK)
