Alice Dorothy & Wendy is a theatrical, cinematic and musical adaptation of Sunshine Coast local Nycole Prowse’s award winning poetry by coast musical composer Mark Ferris, winner of the 2013 Pacific Opera Vocal Writing Prize and filmmakers Drift Pictures.

Alice Dorothy & Wendy draws upon the literary worlds of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and J.M Barrie’s Peter Pan to re-imagine the journeys of the three female protagonists.

Evoking the sense of revolutionary self-discovery of its names sake, Alice Dorothy & Wendytraces one woman’s psychical journey into adulthood mirroring the opiated visions of the novels. Alice Dorothy and Wendy confront five challenges of growth: awakening, disillusionment, discontentment, defeat and insight, each of which they manoeuvre defiantly.

The production will bring to life the poetic retelling of these much-loved stories at the inaugural Sunshine Coast Horizon Festival at 8:30pm on Saturday the 3rd of September at the Black Box Theatre Nambour this year.

The Alice Poems have been described by the judges of the University of Southern Queensland’s Poetry Competition as evocative and playful, representing and retaining a strong sense of Alice who is ‘open yet feisty, receptive but defiant, vulnerable but frankly disinterested, and prepared to play the game and break the rules.’
