Event Description

“All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players: They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his life plays many parts, His acts being in seven ages…”

The ‘Second Age Project’ returns for its seventh year as a curtain-raiser for Sport for Jove’s Summer Season at Bella Vista Farm.

Join us at the historic Bella Vista Farm Park to see the joyous new production of ‘As Hamlet Likes It’- a mixture of two of Shakespeare’s most classic plays – ‘Hamlet’ and ‘As you like it’ adapted and directed by George Kemp.

The atmospheric, heritage-listed barn becomes the backdrop for Hamlet and his troupe of Players. Hamlet enlists the Players help to secretly rehearse his revenge play, ‘The Murder of Gonzago’, which he plans to have them perform in front of the royal court. One small problem — they don’t know it.

The Players gingerly offer up an alternative, something they’ve been tinkering with. A brand spanking new comedy they’ve cooked up on the road.

Hamlet is in no mood for comedy, but he hears them out.

It’s a rough and ready romp about Rosalind. A wrestling match. A banished father. And a curious forest that serves as the backdrop for some gender-bending, mistaken identities, goat milking and a strange kind of love-coaching school, with Rosalind as a head tutor.

Anything can happen - but will Hamlet get these rag tag actors ready to perform in time?

See you in the barn for a funny, enthralling palette cleanser before ‘Romeo and Juliet’ from the 28 – 29 December.

Directed by George Kemp

PLEASE NOTE
The Sport for Jove Summer Season event is an open-air and all-weather event. The performance area and audience seating is completely uncovered. The event is an all-weather experience, and Sport For Jove Theatre Company is committed to going ahead with a performance even in unfavorable weather conditions unless there is a concern for the general safety of the actors and audience by attending the show. The decision to move a performance indoors can be made up until 30 minutes before the show begins and a cancellation may also be called during the performance. A show is considered to be performed once 60% of it has been staged and it will not be moved indoors if conditions require the remaining portion of the performance outdoors to be canceled.

Ticket holders are encouraged to follow the Sport For Jove Wet Weather hotline at (02) 9990 7708 for the most current update regarding a plays' status that day.
