CCI FEDERAL BUDGET BREAKFAST feat. The Hon Mathias Cormann, Federal Minister for Finance and Rick Newnham, Chief Economist, CCIWA.

The 2017-18 Federal Budget will be handed down by the Treasurer on Tuesday 9 May 2017. 

Detailing the economic and fiscal outlook for Australia, the Budget outlines the Government's direction for the financial year as well as the following three years and provides a blueprint for the plans that underpin their policy priorities, which in 2016 included diversifying the economy, improving the taxation system, reducing debt and boosting employment.

Join us for breakfast to hear from the Hon Mathias Cormann, Federal Minister for Finance, who will detail the recently released 2017 Federal Budget, highlighting the key elements and what it will mean for WA's business community and economy followed by an on the couch session with CCI Chief Economist Rick Newnham and Minister Cormann. 

Senator the Hon Mathias Cormann has been the Minister for Finance, first in the Abbott Government and now in the Turnbull Government, since 18 September 2013.

Mathias was appointed as the Deputy Leader of the Government in the Senate on 20 September 2015. For a period in 2016, Mathias also assumed the responsibilities of Special Minister of State, during which time he managed the successful passage of Senate voting reforms through the Australian Parliament. He has represented the State of Western Australia in the Senate since June 2007.

Mathias was born in Belgium and decided to migrate to Australia permanently after visiting Perth in 1994, attracted by the great lifestyle and opportunities on offer in Western Australia. Before migrating to Perth, Mathias studied law at the Flemish university of Louvain (Leuven). A keen aviation fan, in 2001, Mathias obtained his Private Pilots Licence through the Royal Aero Club of Western Australia.
