Arrive to Cockatoo Island Open Day in style on board Sydney Heritage Fleet's 1902 steam tug Waratah.


Hop aboard Sydney Heritage Fleet's 1902 steam tug Waratah to get to Cockatoo Island, just as the dockyard workers would have years ago. Tickets are just $20 per adult and $10 per child (4-12 years old) one way. Pick up from Pirrama Park, Pyrmont (schedule below). Please meet 10 minutes early to ensure a prompt departure.

Important Information



  • Meeting Point: Northern end Pirrama Park, Pyrmont, NSW - opposite the apartments at 11 Pirrama Road (Google Map).

  • Stilettos, sharp-heeled shoes and smoking strictly prohibited.

  • Please be aware that the weather can change during the day. A windproof jacket is useful whatever the weather as it may be breezy and cold out on the harbour.

  • Due to the heritage nature of all the heritage boat, they are unfortunately not wheelchair accessible. Access to toilets is by a step on the deck.


Location of the wharf:



  •  Opposite the apartments at 11 Pirrama Road

  •  Northern end of Pirrama Park, Pirrama Road, Pyrmont

  •  It is opposite White Bay (Balmain)

  •  Look out for the palm trees and it's not far from the outdoor gym equipment

  •   Nearest other landmark is Jones Bay Wharf (but a few mins walk from there) 


Transport:



  • Walk from Town Hall station across the historic Pyrmont Bridge (15 min), walk to Pirrama Park (11 min)

  • Darling Harbour ferry from Wharf 5 at Circular Quay and alight at Pyrmont Bay, walk to Pirrama Park (11 min)

  • Light Rail from Central station and alight at Star Casino, walk to Pirrama Park (6 min) OR Light Rail from Central station and alight at John Street Square, walk down Harris St to the waterfront and Pirrama Park (4 min)

  • Bus No 389 which runs from Bondi Junction to Pyrmont (details here) and goes through the city via Park St.

  • Parking at Wilson Parking - Jones Bay Wharf Car Park (150m walk)
