Event Description

Join us for informal drinks, networking and the rare opportunity to hear from significant international experts in cybersecurity.

Ben Flatgard, founder and principal of Cycise, most recently posted as Director for Cybersecurity Policy on the National Security Council for THE WHITE HOUSE, Washington, DC. Ben was responsible for leading policy development for the US government in areas related to cybersecurity in the financial services and healthcare sectors, consumer security, and emerging technology.

David Irvine AO is an Australian diplomat, who was Director-General of the Australian Secret Intelligence Service (ASIS) from 2003 to 2009 and then from 2009 to 2014 was the Director-General of Security (head of the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation). The only person to have served as the head of both. Cyber security is one of Australia's national security priorities — Australia's national security, economic prosperity and social wellbeing rely on the availability, integrity and confidentiality of a range of information and communications technology. However, the risk to the Australian economy from computer intrusion and the spread of malicious code by organised crime has been assessed as high and an increase in the scale, sophistication and perpetration of cybercrime has made it increasingly difficult to identify and defeat.

Arguably the fastest growing tech sector in the world, cybersecurity is being fuelled by an unprecedented rise of cybercrime. Enabled by the limitless convenience and instantaneous nature of the internet, cyber-attacks now present fierce threats for businesses, governments and consumers worldwide, with cybercrime damages estimated to cost the world US$6 trillion annually by 2021.

While connectivity to the internet is now critical to doing business, no organisation is immune from cybercrime. From the smallest business to the biggest enterprises, all are vulnerable to cyberattacks. Whilst many go to great lengths to protect their physical assets many do not take similar precautions with their digital information.

This is an opportunity for businesses to hear from international industry leaders that will discuss the significance of the cybersecurity sector, latest threats, mitigations and advances in cybersecurity and what it means for WA businesses.
