Synonymous with House music and its hometown, Derrick Carter has been one of Chi town’s most revered DJs and Producers for over 20 years.

Since beginning DJing at the age of nine playing Disco records at family reunions, Carter was already getting by working at Gramaphone records and holding residencies at Shelter, Foxy's, and Smart Bar at the age of 16. After graduating from college in 1987, Derrick launched his production career with his debut single ‘Love Me Right’. A stack of solo Productions, Remixes and collaborative projects followed in the late 80s and early 90s, including the ‘Symbols & Instruments’ trio with Mark Farina and Chris Nazuka on KMS, along with the ‘Dreaming E.P’ with Cajmere on Cajual among a long list of others. 

In 1994, Derrick launched his Blue Cucaracha label, featuring releases from Chez N Trent, a number of joint projects from himself and Chris Nazuka along with other appearances from Ron Trent and Chez Damier on records like the essential ‘Never’ 12” by Red Nail and more. It was the iconic ‘Classic’ label however that he and Luke Solomon ran between 1995-2005 that is heralded as one of House music’s most influential labels of the late 90s-early 2000s. During it’s existence Classic featured 100 releases from likes of Gemini, DJ Sneak, Blaze, Herbert, Isolée, Roy Davis Jr. and many, many more.
