Event Description

Australia, are you ready for a new wave of comedians, storytellers, MCs, poets and wordsmiths?

We. Are. Ready.

My name is Taku Mbudzi and I’ve spent most of 2016 growing the guts to host my own stand-up comedy show. It’s finally happening in December and it’s called DIASPORA DISASTERS DOWNUNDER.

The show will feature comedy sets by Joe White, MC Vicolo, Manu Ranga, RicMags, Jason Wood, Teexay and music by S.O.X. We are ready to share our experiences of life in Australia and there’s NO filter!

 Performer Profiles

Taku Mbudzi

I’m Taku and I’m a Zimbabwe-born speaker and writer based in Perth, Australia. I have been celebrating cultural diversity on Australian stages, radio and TV since 2006. I share my stories to inspire people to celebrate their uniqueness and dream boldly, no matter where they are from. I am especially passionate about using humour to help people speak up and out for themselves. My latest children’s book Multicultural Me uses cartoons to promote friendship in primary schools. Follow my adventures at https://www.taku.com.au

Joe White

Joe White is one of Perth's most prolific comedians and winner of "Next Gen Comedy 2016", "Mandurah Crabfest Comedy 2016" and “Perth Fringe Gong Comedy 2016". He was also the runner-up at Comedy Lounge’s "Funny Faces Comedy 2016". He mainly draws his comedy from his Ethiopian upbringing in Australia and all the experiences he has gone through. Jason Wood

Jason Wood used to be a professional dancer specialising in all things hiphop and breakdancing. He’s always had a wicked sense of humour and now uses stand-up comedy to poke fun at his South African heritage and his life, career and relationship experiences. He’s performed his comedy interstate and locally, and he’s a popular event MC in the local dance scene. Jason has been a WA State Finalist in the RAW National Stand-Up Comedy Competition as well as the Funny Faces Competition. Follow Jason’s funny (and unfiltered) adventures at: https://www.instagram.com/jaseakatiger

MC Vicolo

MC Vicolo originally hails from Nigeria and is truly the king of skit, improv and acting. He unapologetically gets into character and makes you believe he is your crazy parent, whacky uncle or annoying girlfriend. Vicolo spends countless hours writing and filming his funny videos with family and friends. He has competed in the RAW National Stand-up Comedy Competition, performed in Perth’s first ever Gospel Comedy Show and recently hosted his own comedy show. Follow Vicolo’s funny adventures at: https://www.facebook.com/mc.vicolo

Manu Blessing

Zimbabwe-born Manu started doing comedy because he thought it was selfish not to share the things that made him laugh. His comedy style can be summed up in one word - random. Manu’s unique and humorous take on life sees him invited to MC several events like fundraisers, conferences, church events and work functions in Perth and interstate. When he’s not performing, Manu works on his newly released line of men's tailored suits or he simply packs his bags and goes exploring. He’s off to India next! Follow Manu’s curious adventures at: https://www.facebook.com/blessing.ranga

Teexay

Teexay is an MC, public speaker and youth ambassador, originally from Somalia. He is particularly driven by his passion for issues regarding culture and identity. Teexay aims to provide a platform for young Australians from different backgrounds to be able to navigate their identity and cultural issues in a productive, positive and empowering manner. Tinashe SOX

S.O.X, aka Tinashe Soko is highly acclaimed storyteller who speaks volumes every time he steps up to the mic. Any mic. Driven by the need to share his story and to rock the crowd in the process, S.O.X is a Zimbabwe-born emcee with wisdom and understanding beyond his years. S.O.X has collaborated and performed with different musicians in Australia, and even released a track with renowned DJ Ta-ku. Follow S.O.X.’s musical adventures at: https://www.facebook.com/soxmuzik

RicMags (Not pictured)

Ric discovered a passion for comedy at the age of 11, entertaining and telling jokes to over 200 students during long power outages in boarding school in Malawi. Always a performer, coming to Australia years later Ric rediscovered a love of comedy performing at Lazy Susan's Comedy Den. When not trying to find the funny, RicMags can be found hosting night owl community radio. You might also find him on stage performing in community theatre, Perth Fringe, short films, in addition to providing his services as a voice actor. Follow Ric’s performing adventures at: https://www.instagram.com/cardomags
