To celebrate the anniversary of when the lantern was first lit 206 years ago, Macquarie Lightstation will open its doors to the public. As you explore Macquarie Lightstation on our 45-minute tour, our knowledgeable guides will share past tales and recent developments behind this iconic Sydney landmark. Learn about the importance of Country for First Nations peoples and some of the stories passed down through generations. Discover the history of the lighthouse from Greenway’s original to Barnet’s homage, including recent archaeological and heritage work being undertaken on the historic Greenway Wall that will ensure its legacy for many years to come. Climb the tower and take in the spectacular view from the lighthouse balcony. Rarely open to the public, this special World Maritime Day tour will shed light on the importance of Sydney’s oldest navigational light source for maritime safety.

- Cost: $26 per adult, $16 per child (12 - 16 years) and $16 per concession holder.
- Days and times: Friday 29 November, 10:30am, 11am, 11:30am, 1pm, 1:30pm, 2pm AND 2:30pm
- Meeting point: The tour starting location is outside the door to Macquarie Lighthouse.
- To ensure the safety of participants and Harbour Trust staff, at the discretion of the Harbour Trust, any participant(s) who appears intoxicated, disruptive or displays consistently unsafe behaviour, will not be permitted to take part in the tour, and / or may be asked to leave the tour at any time. Refunds will not be provided.
- Weather conditions: Tours will proceed regardless of weather conditions except in the event of extreme weather. Participants will be notified via email if the tour is cancelled, and under these circumstances, a full refund will be issued. For safety reasons, the tour may need to be amended on the scheduled day without notice.
- Maximum number of tour participants: Due to the working nature of the lighthouse and for safety reasons, only 8 visitors are able to enter the lighthouse at any one time accompanied by Harbour Trust staff or volunteers.
- Accessibility: The base of the lighthouse is accessible via a paved path, however, going inside the building is not suitable for people using a wheelchair, mobility aid or pram. There are 7 steps into the ground floor of the lighthouse and the tower requires visitors to climb and descend 100 steep stairs, as well as move through restricted spaces. To enter onto the balcony, visitors are required to bend down and move through a small door (approx. 600mm x 600mm). A moderate level of fitness is required. The tour is not recommended for people with a fear of heights or those with heart conditions. Public toilets are located approximately 300 metres down the road at Christison Park.
- First Nations peoples: Our First Nations community are advised that this tour contains stories (and may contain images and/or visuals) of deceased persons.
- Safety: All visitors must comply with the safety directives issued by guides, rangers and security staff.
- Age restriction: This tour is restricted to people 12 years of age and over. People under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult.
- Suitable flat walking shoes, drinking water and wet weather clothing (if needed).
