Event Description

Missed out on securing tickets to our sold-out Discover Macquarie Lighthouse Tour? You're in luck! Due to popular demand, we will be running a second day of tours on 17 May, providing you another chance to venture to the top of Australia's first lighthouse.

To celebrate the Australian Heritage Festival, Macquarie Lightstation will open its doors to the public. As you explore Macquarie Lightstation on our 45-minute tour, our knowledgeable guides will share past tales and recent developments behind this iconic Sydney landmark. Learn about the importance of Country for First Nations peoples and some of the stories passed down through generations. Discover the history of the lighthouse from Greenway’s original to Barnet’s homage, including recent archaeological and heritage work being undertaken on the historic Greenway Wall that will ensure its legacy for many years to come. Climb the tower and take in the spectacular view from the lighthouse balcony. Rarely open to the public, this special Australian Heritage Festival tour will shed light on lasting connections between First Nations peoples and Country, as well as the heritage of Sydney’s oldest navigational light source.
