Event Description
Discovery Session - Build a bat box workshop

Help protect our local biodiversity with the renowned bat expert, Joe Tonga, in a hands-on Bat Box Building Workshop. As part of this workshop, you will help construct 10 bat boxes that will be installed in the trees in our local natural areas to provide alternative nest sites for our native bats.

Come learn more about these intriguing and quirky creatures and their habits. Joe will teach you all about our native bats – did you know these tiny insectivorous flying mammals can eat up to 1,000 mosquitos every night!

Joe will also guide you through the process of how to make a bat box to help with the conservation of our local micro-bat population. All materials to build the bat boxes will be provided.

This is your chance to help the environment and create a home for these incredible creatures. The ten boxes created in the workshop will be donated back to local Friends Groups and placed into the wild by Joe himself for use by the micro bats. Following installation, we hope that within a month, some of our local microbats will have moved into them.

We will also look to do a Bat Night Stalk once some bats have settled into their new homes in our natural areas.

Cost $10.00. Book and pay online.
