Event Description
Discovery Session – Camera in Captivity

This is the story of young Australian soldier George Aspinall who, when imprisoned by the Japanese in Singapore, hid his Brownie camera and continued to take photos at great personal risk, documenting his time in captivity both in Singapore and on the dreaded Thai/Burma railway. Using stolen materials, he was also able to process the photos and so created a unique visual diary of captivity. Many of his photos were subsequently used as evidence of mistreatment at the Japanese war trials at Rabaul.

Note: None of the photographic imagery used in this presentation is of a shocking or distasteful nature

Cost $5.00. Book and pay online.
