Event Description
Discovery Session - Sourdough Bread Making

Fr. Emmanuel has been baking sourdough bread for over 20 years.  He will be demonstrating the process of making sourdough bread at home using a simple recipe requiring minimal effort. He will demonstrate the process from beginning to end and present a baked sourdough loaf at the end of the lesson for those present to taste.

If you are interested in sourdough baking bring along a small plastic container so that you can take some sourdough starter home with you. The starter is a natural wild yeast cultivated from the wheat grain/flour itself and is very different from commercial yeasts.

Commercial yeasts came into baking in England soon after the Second World War to quicken the proofing time before baking. This forced quick fermentation for bread baking with commercial yeast is not ideal for good gut health.

Sourdough is the best bread for good gut health. The long fermentation process consumes the sugars and toxins naturally found in wheat flour.  It is suitable to consume for example for people who have diabetes and various digestion related problems. The only ingredients used are wheat flour, sourdough starter, filtered water and a little salt.  No preservatives, oil or any fat is used.  There are no preservatives or other additives used.

Cost $5.00. Book and pay online.
