Event Description

SLQ Summer Festival - Duct Tape IslandDuct Tape Island with Dr. Andrew King

8–10 Jan | 9am–2pm | $35

You are part of an envoy of young engineers stranded on a deserted island. The only supply you have at your disposal: duct tape. In this creative engineering challenge, work in groups to design and craft as many useful objects out of duct tape as you possibly can. Who knows, one of them might save your life, get you rescued, or become the world’s next great invention!

Workshops are fully supervised, with all equipment and materials supplied. Different age groups and learning styles are catered for by our highly experienced facilitators.

The tape used in this workshop is 100% recyclable.

About the presenter: Dr Andrew King is a Brisbane-based consulting engineer. He is passionate about STEM education and the integral role of engineering in our future. In response to seeing very few engineers represented in children’s literature, Andrew created Engibear as a “friendly face” of engineering — a way to introduce engineering to young children and pique their interest in the kinds of things that engineers can do.

Please download the Story Lab workshop information guide and consent form here.

Parent/carer supervision is not required for these workshops.
