Event Description

WE CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU IN HOBART!

FDCA is very excited to announce that for the first time since 2009, the FDCA National Conference will be held in Hobart from 28-30 October 2021.

The conference will take place at the Hotel Grand Chancellor and combines Hobart's unique history, picturesque harbour, rugged mountains, gourmet food, arts and cultural scene, the FDCA 2021 National Conference is an event not to be missed.

To ensure that the conference is as accessible as possible for members, FDCA has heavily subsidised tickets to the 2021 National Conference for FDCA members. Early-bird tickets are now available from $599; representing a substantial saving on previous conferences.

Known as Australia's premier family day care conference, the FDCA National Conference has a proud history of bringing together stakeholders from the family day care and early childhood education and care sector to connect and discuss key issues that are impacting the sector.

FDCA members are ensured a risk-free ticket purchasing experience. FDCA will ensure that any members who are unable to attend the conference due to COVID related circumstances will receive a FULL refund on their ticket purchase up until three weeks out from the conference.

Maggie Dent

We are also pleased to announce that Maggie Dent, Professor Linda Harrison and Jay Laga'aia are set to join delegates at the conference as keynote speakers.

Maggie, who has become one of Australia's favourite parenting authors and educators, with a particular interest in the early years and resilience, will present a keynote address and two workshops at the conference.

Maggie’s experience includes almost two decades as a secondary teacher before moving into counselling, palliative care and suicide prevention. Maggie is an advocate for the healthy, commonsense raising of children in order to strengthen families and communities, and is a passionate, positive voice for children of all ages.

Linda is one of Australia’s best known early childhood researchers, whose record includes the development of Belonging, Being and Becoming: The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia, the design of the child care components of Growing Up in

Australia: The Longitudinal Study of Australian Children, and many collaborative research projects with government departments and early childhood education and care organisations, including

Family Day Care Australia. Linda will present a keynote address and is a co-presenter in two workshops.

Linda has a special connection with family day care, having worked as a Child Development Officer (CDO) for four years, where she learned to value the individuality of family day care educators, the diverse strengths they bring to their work with children and their support for families, and the close, lasting relationships they form with families and children.

Jay will be returning to the FDCA National Conference after a show stealing performance as our Master of Ceremonies at the FDCA 2018 National Conference Gala Dinner.

Jay Laga'aia

Best of all, not only will Jay be joining us as our Gala Dinner Master of Ceremonies, but Jay will also be featuring as a keynote speaker to share stories from his life and career.

Jay is a proud father of eight, a much-loved Play School presenter, children’s entertainer, accomplished actor and has also performed his original music with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, WA Symphony Orchestra and SA Symphony Orchestra.
