Festivale presents Wine, Beer and Spirits Masterclasses

Indulge in a palate pleasing arrange of Tasmanian wine, beer and spirits.  Engage with some of Tasmania’s most inspirational beverage producers and learn about our award winning beverages.

All classes will be held in Victoria’s on the Park, located adjacent to the historic Albert Hall on the corner of Cimitiere and Tamar Streets.

Access to the classes is available directly from the park – head towards the Albert Hall and follow the signs. 

An entry ticket to Festivale will be required on the day to attend the Master Class(es).

Friday 1st February

5.30 pm          BEST OF THE BEST – Festivale award winners

Our perennially popular Festivale Wine Awards winner’s masterclass is moving to the new time of Friday night.  Two of our Festivale wine judges will take you through each class and its winner, educate you on how they objectively judge the wines and fill you in on what it takes produce an award winning wine.

Saturday 2nd February

11.30 am       CIDER – behind the fruit

Craft cider is so hot right now, and Tasmania is leading the charge, converting our ‘Apple Isle’ to the ‘Cider Isle’.  Let two of our expert local cidermakers teach you about ‘real cider’, made from real fruit with real cidermaking methods.  This class will include the award winning ciders from the Festivale Cider Awards.

1.15pm          GIN – do you even know your spirit?

We’ve heard about the botanicals, but what do you know about the base spirit that distillers use to make the gin?  Let our fabulous local distillers educate you on the variety of base ingredients that can go into this enticing spirit and how the botanical matching then has to shift.

3.00 pm         PINOT NOIR – the versatile grape

Yes it’s a red grape, but did you know it makes clear sparkling wines and Rose? Come along and taste some of the best sparkling AND Pinot from a range of producers.

4.45 pm         FOUR BEERS, FOUR CHEESES – iconic beer and cheese    

Contrary to popular belief, beer is a fantastic accompaniment to cheese. Taste your way through a selection of beers from award winning James Boag's Brewery accompanied with iconic King Island cheeses. A class that will satisfy both beer and cheese lovers alike.

Sunday 3rd February

10.30 am       ALTERNATE VARIETY WINES – new and different grapes being grown in Tasmania

There is more to Tasmania than our sparkling wines and our Pinots.  Some of our innovative growers are producing amazing varietals that you may never have heard of, but here is your chance to gain insight into these varieties, including how they taste and how to say them!

12.15 pm       OTHER SPIRITS – guaranteed to warm your senses

The Tasmanian distilling craze is forging ahead full steam.   Come along and hear about the mix of spirits our Island is becoming known for – you will be pleasantly surprised at that you will learn and taste.

2.00 pm         PLUMM GLASSWARE - does the wine glass really matter?

Does the wine glass really matter? – YES IT TRULY DOES! - Join Plumm Ambassador, Jared Dickason as he takes you on a journey of discovery on how important a glass can be to enjoying a fine wine.
