Event Description
Hemispheres 14 | JigJam and Mànran

Courtesy of the Fairbridge Festival our next Hemispheres concert at PS Fremantle on Anzac Day (Thursday, April 25) features a fabulous Celtic double-bill of two consummate world-class acts: Mànran (Scotland) and Jigjam (Ireland).

JigJam (Ireland)

Tullamore is home to a fine Irish whiskey; it’s also home to three members of the wondrous Irish bluegrass quartet the Jigjam. What Tullamore Dew and JigJam have in common is you will get that same warm feeling after spending a few hours together.  Seriously, this band blends Irish traditional music, bluegrass and Americana as if defining a new genre.  All four have grown up immersed in Irish traditional music and whilst their influences cross the Atlantic, they definitely stay true to their Irish roots.  Led by singer/guitarist, Jamie McKeogh, JigJam are a consummate multi-instrumental quartet variously featuring guitar, mandolin, fiddle, banjo and double bass.

Mànran (Scotland)

Described was by UK folk/world magazine, FROOTS as "a hugely entertaining band with some serious points to make”. Mànran play a sophisticated and fiery array of songs and tunes featuring fiddle, accordion, flute, uillean and Highland bagpipes. Leaders among an exciting new crop of Scottish bands, they play a diverse gaelic repertoire with a strong nod to the tradition, whilst fusing elements jazz and rock as well. Mànran have been together since 2010 and played a special concert at the 2012 London Olympics. They have released three albums with a fourth on the way.

"A thrilling live act, Mànran are one of Scotland’s best traditional outfits and their star is most definitely on the rise. Watch them go." - The Daily Record

"Mànran are an exceptionally talented bunch of young guys that are taking the music world by storm with their high energy, stomping tunes and phenomenal gaelic and english songs" - Donald Shaw, Celtic Connections
