Event Description

Every month; the residents of Cockburn alone send the equivalent of 13 Blue Whales of general waste to landfill..

Most of us will probably never get the opportunity to see a blue whale in the ocean.. BUT we all get the opportunity to tour the Henderson Waste Recovery Park! It’s such an eye opener!

Great reminder that we all have a part to play in reducing waste and great way to understand what happens to your waste after the truck picks it up from your driveway!

Join us on Saturday 17th February 2024 for an educational tour of the Henderson Waste Recovery Park.

You will learn how waste can be minimised and avoided, re-used and recycled and how we convert the waste gas into electricity. And.. you get to stop into our popular Reuse Shop to pick up a few bargains!

Meet at the City of Cockburn Administration Centre carpark to be transported to and from the HWRP in our community van - departing 9:30am sharp from the Admin Centre carpark.

Please let us know if you have any accessibility requirements.

Sustainability is a key strategic value for the city of Cockburn. The city has identified the following vision statement to ensure sustainability of its waste management services: "To lead and support a community that avoids waste generation, reduces environmental impacts and consider the waste that is produced as a valuable resource to be recovered, reused and recycled."

In line with the City's and WA State Government Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Strategy, the City of Cockburn’s priority is to AVOID generating waste. Recovery, reprocessing and recycling come next when waste is unavoidable. Disposal of waste to landfill being the least favourable option.
