Q&A Session following performance on Thursday 15 February

“I started to learn things. It was like being baptized, only without the male-dominated hegemonic paradigm. Everything is a little bit of everything, Isaac. We’re simply us. Hir.”

Max is a transgender teen living with mum Paige and father Arnold. When brother Isaac returns home from the marines, he finds war has broken out at home. Finally liberated from an oppressive marriage, Paige is set to dismantle the patriarchy and follow Max into a brave new post-gender world. But in this savagely funny work, annihilating the past doesn't always free you from it.

“Just... catch up. The world is going forward. There’s no time to be worried about gender.”

Hir is a tenderly heartfelt and highly intelligent new work from one of the ground-breaking artists of our time, Taylor Mac, whose A 24-Decade History of Popular Music was the critical smash hit of the 2017 Melbourne Festival.

"Perhaps no play this year inspired a greater sense of awe."–New York Times
