HOOCH ft Koi Child

Hooch Presents,

KOI CHILD

with Special Guests

Hideous Sun Demon & Human Buoy

By now, the breezy port of Fremantle, WA has a reputation for birthing some of the worlds’ best alternative music. Enter Koi Child, the combined forces of local hip-hop party starters Childs Play, nu-jazz quartet Kashikoi, the brains behind the smooth as silk debut single Slow One & the riotous new offering Black Panda, both of which produced by Kevin Parker (Tame Impala). Since the single dropped in April, Black Panda has been played on BBC Radio 6, triple j, double j, and community radio across Australia. Pilerats Records are pleased to welcome Koi Child to the family and announce that Black Panda will finally be available for sale digitally this Friday 5 June.

“It started with me beat boxing that fat bass line, Tom heard it and within seconds had the synth replicating the sound I was making. A few days later the band was on a break and Tom busted out that same bass line. Before we knew it the whole band had walked back in to join the jam, I busted some spare rhymes I had and we all lost our shit at the obesity of the track we’d made. What started as a piss take jam, turned out to be a fricken monster! When deciding on the next single a lot of our advisers thought we should have gone with a less aggressive track, but after a chat with Kev (our favourite uncle) we decided to risk it and stick with Black Panda. And so far we’ve got no regrets” – Koi Child vocalist Shannon Patterson on Black Panda’s creation.

The 7 piece have already had a seriously busy first year of formation. Their very first show went down well enough to catch the ear of one nearby Kevin Parker, landing them a support with Tame Impala at Rottnest Island for Koi Child’s second gig, where The Music says they “managed to get a completely sedated crowd on their feet and grooving” and “genuinely felt like a band who’d been kicking around for years”.

Capacity local shows, a coveted spot on the Groovin the Moo in WA, and support slots with Tame Impala and The Preatures followed, as well as their debut single Slow One(premiered by Rolling Stone Australia) which went on to see global praise, receiving radio play on theBBC, triple j, FBi, RTRFM and more.

At the end of 2014, Koi Child teamed up with Tame Impala’s Kevin
Parker, coaxing the visionary producer to a remote island south of
Perth to work on their debut album, set for release through Pilerats Records later this year. The Parker produced, ‘Black Panda’ serves as a second taste of the upcoming record, showcasing an aggressive style, tight instrumentation and an experience that takes on an auditory realm of its own.
