Event Description

'A moment is all it takes'

This HR Quarterly Briefing will focus on safety, as October is National Safe Work month - a time to commit to building healthy and safe workplaces for everyone.

Everyone is welcome to this half day seminar. Our expert speakers will give you some great best practice knowledge and insights on the contemporary topics below. The event will include a Panel Q&A at the end, along with morning tea.

Achieving Worksafe Platinum Status
Melody Miles, Manager Occupational Safety and Health, Bethesda Health Care

Bethesda Health Care in Claremont achieved the prestigious Worksafe Platinum status three times, the only hospital in WA to receive this accolade.
Melody will share how the hospital has managed to retain this status and what you can do to ensure the utmost safety standards are adhered to.

Workplace Bullying - The unknown legal avenues
Aaron Dockery, Employee Relations Advisor, Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA

Many employees are unaware that remedies for workplace bullying are not confined to the Fair Work Act. There are a range of other avenues open to employees to pursue that can result in significant costs for employers. Aaron will be discussing the complete scope of avenues employees can pursue for alleged workplace bullying and offer practical tips on how to mitigate these claims.

Worker's Compensation injuries, claims and return to work - what the data is telling us
Jennifer Low, Associate Director, Work Health & Safety and Workers Compensation Policy, Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry

Biannually, Safe Work Australia conducts the National Return to Work Survey to measure return to work outcomes of injured workers and better understand their experience, including the factors that may influence their return to work.
This year the survey underwent significant revision with several more contemporary measures such as existing medical conditions or financial stress included. As a member of the technical advisory committee overseeing the survey, Jennifer will talk to the 2018 results and what it means for workers' compensation scheme design, liabilities and WA employer performance.

Risk Perception and Safety in the Workplace
Matt Butterworth, Safety & Risk Consultant, Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA

In OH&S, how individuals perceive risks has implications for how they assess risks, recognise hazardous situations and anticipate catastrophic events. The factors influencing risk perception include the individual's sense of control, familiarity with a risk, how risks and benefits are shared, and the immediacy or delay in harm occuring.
Matt will explore the psychological, social and cultural factors that influence how risks are perceived, evaluated and acted upon by individuals and groups.
