Kaarla Kaatijin
Come on a journey into the lives of Djitty Djitty (Willy Wagtail), Kulbardi (Magpie), Dwert (Dingo) and many more familiar friends as they explore the importance of Kaarla (Fire) in this immersive production from the award-winning Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company.
Drawing from creation stories in and around Boorloo (Perth), playwright Zac James draws on traditional knowledge and storytelling to introduce young audiences to stories about fire in an authentic and engaging way.
Kaarla Kaatijin explores the importance of fire, both spiritually and practically, using Noongar Dreaming stories and language, beautiful puppetry, masks and music to get children joyfully engaging with the narrative.
This production is part of Yirra Yaakin’s much-loved Kaatijin series, introducing young audiences to themes such as caring for country, environmental sustainability, cultural awareness and what it means to be a strong, centred individual learning about the world.
