A Tangle of Tales: Angela Slatter and Kathleen Jennings in conversation
Fairytales and folkhorror, mysteries and enchantments: World and British Fantasy Award-winning author Angela Slatter and British Fantasy Award-winning author and World Fantasy Award-winning illustrator Kathleen Jennings are in town for Swancon 50! Join them for an evening of conversation, as they discuss spinning worlds out of fairy tales, enchanting the Australian bush, collaborating, mentoring and ornamenting each others' stories.
About Kathleen Jennings
Kathleen Jennings is a writer and illustrator based in Brisbane, Australia. Her debut novel, Flyaway, was published in 2020. Her writing has won the British Fantasy and Ditmar Awards, and been shortlisted for the World Fantasy Award and The Courier-Mail People's Choice Book of the Year Award (Queensland Literary Awards). She is also a World Fantasy Award-winning and Hugo Award-nominated illustrator. Kathleen has a PhD in creative writing from the University of Queensland. Her latest books are Flyaway (2020), Kindling: Stories (2024) and Honeyeater (2025).
About Angela Slatter
A.G. Slatter has won a Shirley Jackson Award, a World Fantasy Award, a British Fantasy Award, a Ditmar, three Australian Shadows Awards, eight Aurealis Awards and a Premier Ignotus. Most recently, All the Murmuring Bones was shortlisted for the 2021 Queensland Premier’s Literary Awards Book of the Year and the 2021 Shirley Jackson Award; The Path of Thorns won both the Aurealis Award for Best Fantasy Novel and the Australian Shadows Award for Best Novel in 2022; and The Briar Book of the Dead has been shortlisted for both the Aurealis and Australian Shadows Awards for 2024.
She has a PhD in Creative Writing, is a graduate of Clarion South and the Tin House Summer Writers Workshop and has been a judge for the World Fantasy and Aurealis Awards. Angela’s short stories have appeared in many Best Of anthologies, and her work has been translated into many languages. Her most recent novels, set in the Sourdough Universe, are currently published by Titan: All The Murmuring Bones, The Path of Thorns, The Briar Book of the Dead, The Crimson Road and the forthcoming A Forest Darkly (2026). A contemporary horror novella, The Cold House, was published in October 2025. She lives in Brisbane, Australia with a superannuated beagle and a TBR pile which will likely be the death of her.
