Mel Kay ft. Liberte
“Upside Down Town”
SINGLE LAUNCH
Band Bio:
Mel Kay studied music performance at WAAPA for four years since age 17. She released her first single last year which received commercial airplay and was voted top ballad on CD baby. She is passionate about her music reaching those who have been hurt and in being a voice of the voiceless in the community. Her band Liberte was founded last year and is focused on music aimed to motivate people to know their own inner power. With a mix of funk, pop, and indie music the band likes to describe their sound as a mix of Lorde, The Browhorn Orchestra, Kate Miller Heidke, and Jarryd James. The band is launching their new singles “Upside Down Town” and “Feel Alright” at Jimmy’s Den on the 7th October.
“I wrote these songs with the intention to empower young women to know their worth,” Kay said.
“I want to encourage them to have the courage to stand up for themselves in a society that is often very focused on instant gratification, and objectification. I wanted to write music about the importance of respect, as we are all intelligent human beings with a deep need to be loved and valued just as we are.”
