Event Description

Walking grade: Hard

  • Recommended for those with previous hiking experience.

  •  Sections with no visible track, rock climbing and scrambling. Steep descent off Mount Solitary.

MEETING PLACE:

  • Katoomba train station carpark. We will do some car and people shuffling from this point

  • Meeting time: 7.30am

  • Finish time: Approximately 4pm

  • Finish place: Katoomba train station carpark.

This hike south of Katoomba provides stunning views across the Jamison Valley and back north to the Katoomba escarpment. The hike is memorable for its beautiful sections of temperate rainforest and the amazing pathway which passes below the Ruined Castle, past mining ruins, crosses streams and winds its way through a diverse range of ecosystems. Plenty of rock scrambling/climbing sees us atop the knife edge of Mount Solitary. The spectacular views continue all the way across the top of Mount Solitary, with some of the best views in the Blue Mountains.

We walk approximately 18kms the first day. On the second day we travel 9kms through coachwood forest and rainforest before reaching the top of the Valley, this takes approximately 4-5 hours including a stop for lunch.
