Event Description

The Melville Cockburn Chamber of Commerce is the pivotal connection of businesses within the boundaries of City of Melville and City of Cockburn city councils. Their aim is to promote the interests of businesses and strive for excellence in the provision of services to their constituents and in their engagement with the business community of the Melville-Cockburn district.

In partnership with The Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA, please join us for drinks and canapes with an update on the future of the state economy and the development within the City of Melville and City of Cockburn.

This is a great opportunity to meet and network with fellow MCCC members, CCIWA members and other local business, sponsor and council representatives.

Speakers:

Barry Jones, Vice President, Melville Cockburn Chamber of Commerce as MC

Stephen Cope, Director of Urban Planning, City of Melville

Steve will provide an overview of the City's approach to planning for economic development for which he holds responsibility. "My Future Melville" is the city's 20 year vision and master plan for achieving growth and prosperity for the local economy. Recognised as WA's top performing local government for planning performance, the City's Local Planning Strategy plans for high activity mixed-use centres, many of which are already starting to transform landscapes across the City. The development of these exciting activity centres will encourage more vibrant and diverse commercial centres that meet both local and regional needs, offering more commercial, retail and housing choices, great employment diversity, as well as encouraging a more sustainable and appropriate transport network to assist with the economic development of the City of Melville as a whole.

Andrew Trosic, Manager Strategic Planning, City of Cockburn

Andrew will provide an overview of key development areas within the City of Cockburn. This will showcase the rich and diverse development landscape that Cockburn comprises, ranging from the continued new residential areas of the southern suburbs; the major activity centre at Cockburn Central; the planning for Latitude 32; the growing mixed use coastal villages within North Coogee; as well as the extensive revitalisation areas across the established parts of the district. With extensive infrastructure being delivered within Cockburn over the coming short term, there is huge opportunity for continued business growth and investment to underpin the prosperity of this region.

 Rick Newnham, Chief Economist, CCIWA

Rick is passionate about making Western Australia a world leading place to live and do business. He joined the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of WA as Chief Economist in January 2017.  Prior to joining CCI, Rick worked as an Economist for Shell around the world, including postings in Australia, the UK and the Middle East.
