Event Description
Rebellion!

Following in the footprints of their previous award-winning productions, Convict Footprints presents Rebellion!– an epic trip through time led by the adventurous Sarah Matthew ( from their long-running Old Great North Road production) and her foppish husband Felton.

Sarah and Felton will take you on an immersive journey through the history of Castle Hill Heritage Park as scenes from its past are played out by a host of colourful characters culminating in one of the most defining moments of Australian Convict History – the Castle Hill Rebellion!

The ‘tour’ begins at the camp of Government Surveyor Felton Matthew and his adventurous explorer wife Sarah after a hard day’s work. Some brief introductions and then you’re off walking and talking as they escort you around a timeline of changes in Heritage Park.  On the way you’ll meet all manner of historical figures from the time, up close and personal. From the dastardly doings of Doogan and the madness of Marsden to the Machiavellian Major Johnson and the hordes of rebellious Irishmen whose cries of ‘Liberty or Death’ will ring across the fields and stay with you long after the last volleys of musket have ceased their echoes.

Notes:

This is a very gentle walk around the Asylum installation area of the park with standing in between times - feel free to bring portable chair/shooting sticks/expedition furniture.

As per most of our productions it is a bawdy and rumbustious affair up close and personal with the characters - persons of a sensitive disposition be advised!

We recommend this is not suitable for children under 10 years of age due to the vigorous and realistic content of the production [especially the execution bit. And the flogging.]
