RESONATE
PROGRAM:
J STRAUSS Die Fledermaus Overture
BACH Concerto in D minor
D ROJAS CHORUS for ORCHESTRA (world premiere)
BEETHOVEN Symphony Number 7
Conductor Thomas Tsai
Piano Mi Mi
From the silly and sparkling to the sombre and sophisticated, this WPO concert has it all.
We begin with the spectacular overture to J Strauss' opera, Die Fledermaus - a fanfare of joy and frivolity that is wonderfully familiar and exciting - it gets the heart racing with festive fervour.
Of all the concerti that JS Bach wrote for solo keyboard, the D minor Concerto is by far the most monumental and complex. We are excited to have the breath-taking talents of our youngest soloist ever, pianist Mi Mi performing this major work.
Beethoven's 7th Symphony explodes to life with opening chords that resonate against the flourishes of climbing scales and joyous harmonies - which contrasts and complements the extremes of character and mood found throughout this triumphant symphony. Famous for its slow movement, a funeral march bursting with pathos and power, this symphony is a treasure to relish and luxuriate in.
The Woollahra Philharmonic is delighted to welcome back the amazing gifts of Thomas Tsai to conduct this indulgent program.
