Event Description
Self Care for Creative Women

Hi-Ho The Glamorous Life!

Irregular work hours, inconsistent employment, emotionally and psychologically complex and demanding work environments and job descriptions. It's no wonder recent studies have shown that theatre and screen professionals experience a higher incidence of anxiety and depression than the general population. At our very first forum, women told WITS they were anxious, depressed, felt worthless, had less work opportunities than their male counterparts, felt un-safe at work, had body-image issues, were afraid to start families, and had no-where to speak about the unique challenges of being a woman in this industry.

WITS agrees. There's a lot about this industry we can't control, but what we can do is take better care of ourselves and develop coping strategies.

Join facilitator Martine Langoulant, professional resilience and self-care expert, and co-facilitator WITS' Erica Lovell to:

  • Understand the differences between the key concepts of workplace stress, burnout, and how to manage them.

  • Understand the concept of Self Care and its importance.

  • Explore research-based strategies to enhance personal well being and develop a Personal Self Care Plan.

  • Discover a specific set of strategies for practicing professional Self Care in the workplace and develop a Professional Self Care Plan.

  • Learn how to set safe boundaries at work.

  • Develop and maintain a positive self-image.

About Martine

If you ask Martine what she does or who she is, she'd say she's a facilitator, encourager, gardener, and dreamer.

Prior to focussing her energy on training, facilitation and organic veggie gardening, Martine worked as a social worker doing case management, counselling, therapeutic and psycho-educational group work, program co-ordination and project management. Martine also has experience as a TAFE teacher in community services work and currently delivers training for two NSW based training organisations.

In 2005 her experiences in the health and community services sector led her to develop workshops on self-care and wellbeing.

Martine’s 28 years of social work experience working in government and non-government work spaces informs the focus of her work today. She currently delivers worker self care workshops and other training across NSW, Victoria and Tasmania to workers from a range of government departments and NGO’s.

Whether running groups or training fellow workers, Martine believes in facilitating an atmosphere that invites creative conversations for change. When she’s not delivering training she can be found in her garden growing food, talking to the chooks and dreaming about possibilities in the patch and the world!

Martine has a Bachelor of Social Work, Certificate IV in Workplace Assessment and Training, and is an accredited member of Australian Association of Social Workers.

Martine assisted in the planning and delivery of WITS' first forum, and is sensitive to the particular stressors of the theatre and screen industries.
