Event Description

LET'S GET SEWING TO REDUCE WASTE THIS CHRISTMAS!

Christmas can be a wasteful holiday particularly in the following area:

  •       Excessive packaging (including plastic, Cardboard and wrapping paper)

  •       Single Use Decoration (tinsels, baubles and other decorations are often made from plastics and other non-recyclable materials)

  •        Food waste: Many people prepare more food than necessary, leading to significant amount of leftovers going to waste. Additionally, perishable festive food might spoil if not stored properly or consumed in time.

  •        Unwanted or short-lived Gifts waste: Some gifts may not be useful or wanted, others are novelty items that might not last long and end up in the trash quickly.

  •        Wasted Carbon Emissions: The shipping of gifts and festive items contributes to carbon emissions and environmental impact. BUY Local!

Join our Sustainable Christmas Events Series to learn how to reduce waste this Christmas!

Come along our “Sewing to go Plastic Free” Christmas event on Friday 29th November at The Hub 6163!

The focus for this session will be “Alternative to Single use plastics using discarded textile”

We will create reusable gift-wrapping bags, Christmas decorations, buntings and stockings using second-hand materials.

Everybody is welcome! (Regardless of your sewing skills.)

You will not only help us raise awareness about plastic pollution and textile waste, but you will also meet like-minded community members, and get all your questions about plastics, textile and all rubbish answered, myths busted and leave the event inspired to make a difference.

This event is FREE and all materials are provided but registrations are required!

This event is part of our “Sewing for Sustainability Program” proudly supported by the Government of Western Australia and funded by the Waste Authority – Waste Sorted Program and City of Cockburn.

We look forward to seeing you there!
