Sheysha - Sydney Premiere Screening is proudly presented by Thanruna Group of Sinhalese Cultural Forum of NSW in association with Lanka Events
‘Sheysha’, a movie centred around the theme of dance and spotlights the Sri Lanka’s traditional family dance rituals and a father-son relationship in generations old dance themes.
It is a loving story which centres around a ‘Gurunnanse’ and his beloved son who try to protect their art as their life in a politically unconscious and culturally corrupted society. The film ‘Sheysha’ is a story about people, who are trying to preserve an art which uniquely remains as a remnant in human society.
‘Sheysha’, has been adjudged the winner in the Best Dance Film category at the ‘Remember The Future’ of Cannes World Film Festival2024 in Cannes, France.
‘Sheysha’ created by Gunathilake in collaboration with veteran dancers Chandana Wickramasinghe and Ravibandu Vidyapathy, both renowned figures in Sri Lankan dance arena, to the script penned by Samantha Kumara Gamage.
Dancers Chandana Wickramasinghe, Umali Thilakaratne, Malkanti Jayasinghe, Nalin Pradeep Uduwela, and other talented actors Thilina De Silva, Sameera Lakshan, Jayantha Muthuthantri, Padmasiri Herath contribute to the performance.
Remarkably, ‘Sheysha’ has achieved international acclaim, becoming the first Sri Lankan film to win the award for Best Dance Film in Cannes.
Gayathri Kemadasa handled the music direction for ‘Sheysha’, while the other production crew involved in the movie are Camera – Chinthaka Bandara and Niroshan Kodippili, Editor – Geesa Haritha Beddage, Art director – Dinesh Jayasantha and Assistant director – Amila Madhuranga
