9pm: Valtozash

Behold Brisbanes newest and most brutal jazz orchestra, the Valtozash Bigband. They play jazz-metal. It’s a jab in the eye with a sopranino saxophone; a punch in the jaws with a 24” power ride; your genre-bone will hurt; you’ll crave trumpet in every band.

Recently described as "innovative but kind of messed up", the band splices the textures and improvisation of jazz with the numerous styles of metal; thrash, grindcore, march, ambience, among others. Under the oppression of Andre Bonetti, composer and electric-vibraphonist, Valtozash has among the hottest players in Brisbane and boasts a seven piece horn section.

“Volume is not compromised, as the sound of trombones, trumpets and sax crash against the walls and test the acoustics. It’s clearly metal jazz, firing on all cylinders, Valtozash not letting genres act as a boundary to their sound.”
-Scenestr Magazine

“...a style which is loud, strong, totally unapologetic and demands to be heard.”
-Alan Western, the Brisbane Jazz Club

“...sounds like glorious, deliberate, melodic chaos which only skilled musicians can really pull off.”
“Oh my god! It’s metal! Valtozash Big Band is metal jazz!”
-Joanna Funk
