Join us for informal drinks, networking and the opportunity to hear from John O'Hare and Peter Cox as they discuss;



  • An overview on the WA Jobs Act 2017, highlighting it's key features, the support it has received and what benefits can be expected from its implementation.

  • Discussions on the Department's position on finalising regulations surrounding thresholds, strategic projects and exceptions.

  • Details of the Department's consultation process with key stakeholders including the CCI and drafting the WAIPS, as well as the responses and how we are moving forward with the implementation process.


About the Speakers:


John O'Hare


John is Executive Director, Resources Development and Defence, in the Western Australian Government’s Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation.


His Directorate contributes to the Department’s vision of a diversified economy by working with designated industries to grow the economy and create employment, developing strategic partnerships to encourage sustainable economic growth and maintaining and developing legislation and policy framework for industry development.  His Directorate is responsible for working with industry to attract projects in the defence and marine sectors to Western Australia.


His Directorate is responsible for the successful development of the WA Jobs Act 2017, which aims to utilise the State Government procurement process to enhance local industry participation in the supply of goods and services for State Agencies, the Western Australian Industry Participation Strategy (WAIPS), the Implementation Guidelines, Participation and Reporting Plan templates and a Suppliers Guide. He is a member of the Gorgon and Wheatstone Local Content Committees and is co-Chair of the Shell Australia Prelude Local Content Roundtable.


He is a trustee of the Committee for Economic Development of Australia and a graduate of the University of Western Australia and Edith Cowan University.
