Event Description

The world’s best professional women’s softball team, Japan Toyota Red Terriers, are returning to Blacktown, NSW for the second consecutive season to hold their pre-season training camp from 16-24 February.

The Red Terriers' line-up features the world’s best female pitcher, American import Olympic Medallist,  Monica Abbott, infielder Natasha Watley and five members of the Japan national women’s team.  The Red Terriers were the minor premiers in the Japan Women’s Softball League this past year - a feat they have accomplished five of the last six years.  They were defeated in the 2015 grand final.  The Red Terriers won the inaugural Down Under Series in 2015 with a perfect 6-0 record.

The VIA Network Aussie Spirit will host the Toyota Japan Red Terriers in a series of games from 19-21 February at Blacktown International Sportspark.  This is a key series for the Spirit as they make preparations and last minute selections for the roster that will compete at the 2016 Women’s World Softball Championship to be played at Vancouver, Canada in July.  The Aussie Spirit team will be selected at the completion of the tournament held 5-7 February against the Japan and New Zealand national teams.

There will also be opportunities for coaches and players to observe the Red Terriers' training camp during the week to see how the best professional team in the world prepares for games.

ATTENDANCE AT THIS EVENT IS FREE.
